Kelly Davey won the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events and was second in the 200-yard freestyle
CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Cortland women's swimming and diving team earned five individual victories, including two by
Kelly Davey (Plattsburgh), and one relay win in a dual-meet season-opening 193-107 loss to visiting Ithaca.
Davey won the 50-yard freestyle (25.86) and 100-yard freestyle (55.97), and she was second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.28).
Alana Szewczyk (South Wales/Holland) won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:11.57, edging the runner-up by just 13 hundredths of a second, and
Julia Torell (Camillus/CBA) won the 100-yard butterfly in 59.94 seconds, just over four tenths of a second ahead of the field.
Marissa Kordal (Eden) captured first place in the 200-yard butterfly (2:18.33) and was second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:21.82). She lost the 200IM by only 0.61 seconds.
The tandem of
Josie LaPolt (New Paltz), Szewczyk, Torell and
Heidi Simpfenderfer (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham) won the 400-yard medley relay in 4:11.82.
Lily Miller (Buffalo/Starpoint),
Kailyn Anselment (Moreau/Glens Falls), Simpfenderfer and Davey were second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:43.05).
Cortland will compete in a dual meet at Geneseo next Saturday at 1 p.m.
