PITTSTON, PA. – The Cortland women's ice hockey team scored three power-play goals and skated past King's College, 5-2, Tuesday night in non-conference action. The Red Dragons improved to 8-14-2 with the victory, while the Monarchs remained winless on the season at 0-20-1.
Sophomore
Emily Rose (Clayton/Syracuse Nationals) led five different Cortland goal scorers with one goal and two assists, and sophomore
Emily King (Buffalo/Buffalo Regals) tallied one goal and one assist. Junior
Katy Kennedy (East Greenbush/Troy-Albany Ice Cats) netted her first career goal, and junior
Samantha Pippin (Allen Park, MI/Team Detroit) and freshman
Kirsten MacDowell (Ottsville, PA/New Jersey Rockets) chipped in with one goal as well. Sophomore
Miranda Kolb (Watertown/Syracuse Nationals) and freshmen
Katie DeVoe (Mississauga, ON/Vaughan Flames) and
Olivia Wilburn (Stockton, CA/San Jose Sharks) each recorded an assist. Freshman goalie
Chelsea Allain (Saratoga/Canterbury School) made six saves in her first collegiate start.
Gracen Mahoney and Caitlin Redden scored goals for King's with Mary Deyell and Indra Wood each picking up an assist. Goalie Emma Zeveney turned aside 41 shots.
Pippin gave Cortland a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 7:43 of the first period. Mahoney tied the game just 1:10 into the second period, but the Red Dragons closed out the period with a power-play goal from Rose at 5:59 and Kennedy's goal at 17:58 for a 3-1 lead. King netted her eighth goal of the season at 1:17 of the third period, and MacDowell connected for the Red Dragons' third player-advantage goal of the night at 16:24 to make it a 5-1 score. Redden completed the scoring with 1:49 remaining for the 5-2 final.
