CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The nationally 16th-ranked Cortland men's soccer team controlled play throughout the game in defeating Elmira College, 3-0, in non-conference action Tuesday night at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 3-0-2 with the win. The Soaring Eagles dropped to 1-4.

Junior Miguel Tunas (Carmel/North Salem) paced Cortland with the first goal of his career and an assist. Junior Jake Keller (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) netted a goal, and junior Vic Stasyuk (Marcellus) also scored his first goal as a Red Dragon. Senior Migell Ormsby (Kingston, Jamaica/DeWitt Clinton) and sophomore Eli Yasuna (Sherborn, MA/Dover-Sherborn) each contributed an assist.

Junior goalie Sean Kelly (Coram/Newfield) posted his third consecutive shutout for the Red Dragons. Freshman goalie Giovanni Garufi (Binghamton/Seton Catholic) stopped three shots for the Soaring Eagles.

Cortland, which outshot Elmira, 30-2, in the game and held a commanding 15-0 advantage in corner kicks, took the lead in the 29th minute when Keller scored on a header off a corner kick from Tunas. The Red Dragons made it a 2-0 score in the 62nd minute as Tunas struck a shot from the right side of the box that glanced off a defender and inside the right post. Stasyuk completed the scoring in the 81st minute with a one-time shot into the upper left corner off a corner kick serve by Yasuna.

Elmira's best and only scoring opportunity came with 31 seconds remaining, but senior John Broyles (Victor/FLCC) just missed wide left on a low header at the left post.
