#16 Cortland Works Overtime in Defeating #20 St. Lawrence, 3-2

CANTON, N.Y. – Junior Jake Keller (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) scored off a free kick 5:53 into overtime as the nationally 16th-ranked Cortland men's soccer team defeated 20th-ranked St. Lawrence Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. The Red Dragons remained undefeated at 4-0-2, while the Saints suffered their first loss of the season and dropped to 3-1-1.

Senior Migell Ormsby (Kingston, Jamaica/DeWitt Clinton) and sophomore Brandon Gracias (Poughkeepsie/F.D. Roosevelt) also netted goals for Cortland with junior Michael Miner (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) recording an assist. Junior goalie Sean Kelly (Coram/Newfield) turned aside seven shots.

Ethan Riddell and Jethro Dede scored for St. Lawrence. Tapshak Augustine assisted on both goals. Goalie Mike Smith made seven saves.

Gracias gave Cortland a 1-0 lead just 1:14 into the game with his first career goal. He took a quick, short pass from Miner and sent a shot inside the right post from 12 yards out.

Ormsby made it a 2-0 game in the 69th minute when he carried from midfield, pushed the ball past a defender, dribbled into the box and deposited a shot into the upper right. The Saints, however, answered with a pair of goals to send the game into overtime. Riddell scored in the 78th minute with a deflection in front, and Dede tied the game in the 86th minute with a shot off a scramble in front. Each team had a quality chance to win the game in regulation, but Cortland junior Miguel Tunas (Carmel/North Salem) missed wide left from close range with three minutes remaining and St. Lawrence sent an open shot high 30 seconds later.

Keller scored the game-winner after a St. Lawrence foul just outside of the box. From the right side, Keller struck a shot that slipped past a three-man wall. Smith moved toward the right post, got a hand on the shot but the ball found the back of the net to give Cortland the 3-2 victory.
