NORTHAMPTON, MA. – The nationally 16th-ranked Cortland field hockey team scored four unanswered goals, including three in the second half, to earn a 4-1 victory at Smith College Sunday afternoon in the championship game of the Caryl Newhof Tournament. This is the second straight year the Red Dragons (2-0) have won the title.

Jess Gibaldi (Westbury/W.C. Clarke) and juniors
Hannah Burchell (Whitney Point),
Molly Quinlan (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) and
Amanda Glaser (Huntington/Walt Whitman) each tallied a goal for Cortland. Senior
Victoria Ospina (Accord/Rondout Valley) and freshman
Alanie Genter (Saratoga Springs) collected one assist apiece. Senior goalie
Kailynne Reinoehl (Lititz, PA/Warwick) registered 14 saves.
Beatrice Chaudoin scored the goal for the Pioneers (1-1) with Bryn Murray assisting on the score. Goalie Channy Cornell made three saves.
Smith took the lead 4:31 into the game on Chaudoin's shot from the top of the circle. Gibaldi tied the game just over four minutes later with an unassisted goal in front.
Burchell tallied the game-winner 2:59 into the second half off an assist from Ospina. Quinlan added an insurance goal at 59:02 with Genter assisting, and Glaser finished the scoring at 61:35 for the 4-1 final.

Jessica Welsh was named MVP of the tournament, and Burchell and Reinoehl eac earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
