Red Dragons Play to Scoreless Tie vs. Ithaca

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The nationally 23rd-ranked Cortland men's soccer team played to a 0-0 double-overtime tie versus Ithaca in non-conference action Tuesday night at the Stadium Complex.

Junior goalie Sean Kelly (Coram/Newfield) made one save for the Red Dragons (1-0-2) in posting his first career shutout. Sophomore goalie Max Lichtenstein (Boca Raton, FL/West Boca) turned aside three shots for the Bombers (2-0-1).

Neither team produced a quality scoring chance until late in regulation when Cortland had two opportunities in the 88th minute. First junior Miguel Tunas (Carmel/North Salem) blasted a 20-yard strike from the right side that was blocked by an Ithaca defender. The ball caromed deep in the box until it was cleared out into the midfield. Moments later, junior Jake Keller (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) sent a looping header that just went wide right.

In the first overtime, the Red Dragons had possession deep in Ithaca's defensive end, and Keller had a bid to win it with two seconds remaining but his shot sailed over the crossbar. Cortland outshot  the Bombers, 6-0, through the two 10-minute overtime periods, including 2-0 in the second extra stanza but did not create a quality chance.
