Cortland Ties for Second Place at Lycoming Invitational

WILLIAMSPORT, PA. - The Cortland women's volleyball team finished tied for second out of five schools with a 2-2 record at the Lycoming College Invitational. The Red Dragons (4-4) lost in three sets to undefeated Gettysburg before rebounding to sweep Clarks Summit University to end the tournament.

Gettysburg won the tournament with a 4-0 mark. Cortland, Lycoming and Dickinson were each 2-2 and Clarks Summit was 0-4.

Kiersten Cote (East Rockaway/Kellenberg Memorial) earned a spot on the all-tournament team. She had seven kills, nine digs and a .312 attack percentage in the win over Clarks Summit and finished the tournament with 25 kills, second best on the team, and a team-high 33 digs over four matches.

Gettysburg defeated Cortland, 25-22, 25-12, 25-12. Bridgette Moran (Massapequa Park/St. John the Baptist) led Cortland with five kills, Gabby Fernandes (Islip) totaled nine digs and Gabby Amelio (Pine Bush) handed out 12 assists. Allie Stranick led the Bullets with eight kills and 11 digs. Cortland fought back from a 20-9 deficit in the first set to get as close as 24-22 before a kill by Gettysburg's Francesca Garison ended the set.

In addition to Cote's seven kills and nine digs versus Clarks Summit, Rachael Colombo (Wallkill) finished with seven kills and one error in 14 attempts for a .429 attack percentage. Amelio served eight aces - her best as a Red Dragon - and shared the team lead with Cote with nine digs. Nadia Moore (Durham, NC/Durham School of the Arts) and Moran each had four blocks and Malley Bowen (Owego/Tioga Central) totaled 17 assists. Beth Muhlenkamp led Clarks Summit (1-6) with eight kills and 12 digs.

Cortland will play a dual match at the University of Scranton on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
