CORTLAND, N.Y. - Freshman Ian Keller (East Meadow/New York PAL Islanders) scored his first career goal on the power play early in the second period to break a 1-1 tie and the goal stood up as Cortland held on to defeat Elmira, 2-1, in non-conference action Friday night at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons improved to 7-8 with the win, while the Soaring Eagles fell to 8-7.

Junior Connor Beck (Richmond Hill, ON/Toronto Jr. Canadiens) recorded a goal and an assist for Cortland, while senior Mike Crowley (Buffalo/Springfield Blues) collected two assists and sophomore Alex Storjohann (Phoenix, AZ/Kirkland Lake) added an assist. Junior goalie Nick Modica (Suffern/New Jersey Hitmen) registered 42 saves.

Junior Harry Kramer (Wexford, PA/Connecticut Jr. Rangers) netted an unassisted goal for Elmira, his first score of the season. Sophomore goalie Gennaro Anzevino (South Hackensack, NJ/Dells Ducks) turned aside 28 shots.

Kramer gave the Soaring Eagles a 1-0 lead 1:26 into the game when he stole the puck just inside the blue line and fired a shot past Modica from the left side. Beck tied the game at 7:51 with the man advantage with a one-time shot from the left circle off a pass from Storjohann.

Keller tallied the game-winner at 1:15 of the second period with a deflection at the top of the crease. The Red Dragons killed off a penalty just over four minutes later and took the 2-1 lead into the final 20 minutes. Elmira outshot Cortland, 16-8, in the third period and had a flurry of chances on a power play just past the midway point of the period, but Modica turned aside every opportunity. The Soaring Eagles were awarded another power play with 4:31 remaining and could not convert. With just over a minute to play, Elmira pulled Anzevino for an extra skater, pressuring Cortland but Modica sealed the win with an acrobatic save on junior Connor Powell (Merrimack, NH/New Hampshire Monarchs) who one-timed a loose puck at the right post with seconds remaining.
