NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Cortland women's swimming and diving team defeated host New Paltz, 141-118, in a dual meet behind nine individual victories, including three from
Kelly Davey (Plattsburgh) and two by
Alana Szewczyk (South Wales/Holland).
Davey took top honors in the 50-yard freestyle (24.98), 100-yard freestyle (54.74) and 200-yard freestyle (1:59.31). Szewczyk won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.75) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:37.87).
Three Red Dragons picked up both a first-place and second-place event finish.
Isabelle French (Centerport/Harborfields) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:26.32) and placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:31.98).
Marissa Kordal (Eden) won the 500-yard freestyle (5:30.08) and was second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:20.75), and
Kailyn Anselment (Moreau/Glens Falls) won the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:23.20) and was runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle (5:35.49).
Erica Koumas (East Meadow) was Cortland's other event winner with a time of 1:02.72 in the 100-yard butterfly.
Josie LaPolt (New Paltz) took second place in the 200-yard backstroke (2:21.65).
Cortland finished second in both relays. LaPolt, Szewczyk, Kordal and
Lily Miller (Buffalo/Starpoint) finished the 200-yard medley relay in 1:59.40, while Miller, Anselment, French and Davey were clocked at 3:53.01 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
There were no diving events during the competition since New Paltz's Elting Pool does not have a diving area.
Cortland will compete at Oswego in a dual meet on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 4 p.m.
