CANTON N.Y. – The Cortland field hockey team scored three third-quarter goals in pulling away to a 5-0 victory at St. Lawrence in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at North Country Field. The Red Dragons improved to 8-2 on the season, while the Saints dropped to 3-7.

Seniors Molly Quinlan (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) and Hannah Burchell (Whitney Point) led Cortland with two goals apiece. Senior Amanda Glaser (Melville/Walt Whitman) added a goal. Senior goalie Marisa D'Amico (Smithtown/Smithtown West) turned aside 10 shots in 50:52 before giving way to sophomore Megan McGuinness (Carle Place), who stopped one shot over the final 9:08.

Sydney Giacin started in goal for St. Lawrence, making three saves in the first half. Shea Flannery played the second half and stopped five shots. Delaney Yates recorded a defensive save.

Quinlan gave Cortland a 1-0 lead at 11:20 of the first quarter when she scored off a rebound in front after a Red Dragon penalty corner. Burchell made it a 2-0 game going into halftime with another rebound goal after a corner just 1:57 before the break.

The Red Dragons took control of the game with a three-goal outburst in the third quarter. Quinlan put Cortland ahead, 3-0, at 33:54, beating Flannery in close after dribbling into the circle from the left side. Glaser followed with her goal less than four minutes later on a rebound from five yards out, and Burchell completed the scoring 2:37 before the end of the quarter with a hard drive from the edge of the circle into the bottom of the cage for the 5-0 final.
