CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Geneseo field hockey team scored two second-half goals and defeated Cortland, 2-0, Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons dropped to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference, while the Knights improved to 10-2 and 2-0.

Marisa D'Amico (Smithtown/Smithtown West) registered seven saves for Cortland, and junior
Kaelin O'Brien (Carle Place) recorded a defensive save.
Freshman Cassidy Sturdevant (Whitney Point) and junior Haley Clark (Rocky Point) tallied the goals for Geneseo. Junior Jordan Penkitis (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) collected two assists. Sophomore goalie Natalie Chojnacki (West Seneca/Orchard Park) made four saves, while senior Julia Kim (Mohegan Lake/Lakeland) and junior Kelly McKeveny (Holbrook/Sachem East) each contributed a defensive save.
After a scoreless first quarter, Kim kept the game at 0-0 when she stopped a shot attempt at the left post by Cortland senior
Hannah Burchell (Whitney Point) 1:44 into the second quarter. Then 8:12 into the third quarter, O'Brien made a defensive save on a shot by Penkitis to keep Geneseo off the scoreboard.
Just over four minutes later, Sturdevant scored the game winner with a long shot through traffic that snuck inside the left post. Clark made it a 2-0 game just 1:06 into the fourth quarter, lifting a shot over D'Amico for her team-high eighth goal of the season. The Red Dragons nearly cut their deficit in half with just under five minutes remaining, but Chojnacki denied an initial bid by Burchell and McKeveny followed with a defensive save on Burchell's shot off the rebound.
