Cortland Wraps Up SUNYAC Play with Convincing Win vs. Morrisville

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Seven different players scored goals as the Cortland field hockey team defeated Morrisville St., 10-0, Wednesday afternoon in SUNYAC action at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 14-3 overall and 5-1 in the conference and will host New Paltz in the conference semifinals next Wednesday. The Mustangs fell to 2-16 and 0-6.

Junior Brynn Crocker (Harpursville) led Cortland with two goals and one assist. Senior Amanda D'Amico (Smithtown/Smithtown West) and sophomore Annie Kase (Rochester/Brighton) also tallied two goals. Senior Hannah Burchell (Whitney Point), juniors Allie Bianchi (Richmond, VT/Mount Mansfield Union) and Valerie Brillaud (Nesconset/Smithtown East) and freshman Lily Fox (Northport) each added a goal, while senior Molly Quinlan (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius), junior Erin Hallenbeck (Claverack/Taconic Hills) and freshman Kallie Green (Pennsvile, NJ/Pennsville Memorial) recorded one assist apiece.

Senior Marisa D'Amico (Smithtown/Smithtown West) started in goal for the Red Dragons, making two saves in the opening half before giving way to sophomore Megan McGuinness (Carle Place), who also turned aside two shots in 30 minutes. Sophomore goalie Morgan Dueber (Owego/Owego Free Academy) registered 21 saves for the Mustangs.

Cortland led 3-0 after the first quarter as Bianchi, Fox and Brillaud each netted a goal. Burchell's penalty-stroke goal early in the second quarter made it a 4-0 score at the half.

The Red Dragons seized control of the game with four third-quarter goals. Crocker scored just 39 seconds in, followed by D'Amico's first goal of the game 1:16 later. Kase closed the quarter with back-to-back goals a minute and a half apart. D'Amico's second goal of the contest made it 9-0 at 53:52, and Crocker completed the scoring with 1:23 remaining for the 10-0 final.
