CORTLAND, N.Y. - The nationally second-ranked Geneseo men's hockey team jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first period and went on to a 7-1 victory over Cortland Friday night in SUNYAC action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons fell to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference. The Knights improved to 4-0-1 and 2-0-1.

Junior Tommy Ritchie (Spencerport/New York PAL Islanders) scored his second goal of the season for Cortland. Junior Louis DiMatteo (Nobleton, ON/Trenton Golden Hawks) and sophomore Shane Beaulieu (Claremont, ON/Powassan VooDoos) picked up assists. Senior Nick Modica (Suffern/New Jersey Hitmen) started in goal, making 33 saves in 45:48 before giving way to freshman Luca Durante (Brampton, ON/Aurora Tigers), who stopped all 12 shots he faced over the final 14:12.

Seven different players scored goals and recorded multiple points for Geneseo. Senior Andrew Romano (Drexel Hill, PA/Johnstown Tomahawks) led the Knights with a goal and two assists. Seniors Tyson Empey (Swift Current, SK/Flin Flon Bombers), Conlan Keenan (Rochester/New Jersey Hitmen) and David Szmyd (Elmwood Park, NJ/New Jersey Hitmen) and juniors Devin Brink (Ashburn, VA/Philadelphia Jr. Flyers), Dan Bosio (Brighton, MI/Kingston Voyageurs) and Carson Kelley (Portola Valley, CA/Lone Star Brahmas) each registered a goal and an assist. Freshman goalie Matt Petizian (Mississauga, ON/Hawkesbury Hawks) turned aside 16 shots.
