PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Five different players scored goals as the Plattsburgh men's hockey team defeated Cortland, 5-1, Friday night in SUNYAC action. The Red Dragons dropped to 9-15 overall and 3-12 in the conference, while the Cardinals improved to 11-11-2 and 9-5-1.
Freshman
Ian Keller (East Meadow/New York PAL Islanders) scored Cortland's goal off an assists from sophomore
Conor Tierney (Point Pleasant, NJ/Philadelphia Flyers) and freshman
Dorian Overland (Kingston, ON/Kingston Voyageurs). Junior goalie
Nick Modica (Suffern/New Jersey Hitmen) registered 34 saves.
Cam Owens and Mike Falanga each tallied a goal and an assist to lead Plattsburgh. Andrew Pizzo, Philip Middleton and Cole Stallard netted one goal apiece, and Matt Araujo and Ross Sloan recorded two assists. Jimmy Poreda started in goal, making 19 saves in 55:27 before giving way to Brandon Wells who stopped both shot he faced in 4:33.
The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead early in the first period before Keller made it a 2-1 score at the 14:25 mark of the period. Plattsburgh extended its lead to 4-1 after the second period and added a goal just past the midway point of the third period for the 5-1 final.
The Red Dragons close their season at Potsdam Saturday at 7 p.m.
