FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. – The nationally seventh-ranked Wesleyan men's lacrosse team outscored Cortland, 6-1, in the third quarter to break open a tight game at the half in earning a 13-5 victory Friday night at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The Red Dragons had their four-game winning streak snapped and fell to 4-3. The Cardinals, the defending Div. III national champions, improved to 6-1.
Senior
Joey Panariello (Islip) led Cortland with three goals, becoming the 26th player in program history to reach 100 career goals, upping his career stats to 101 goals, 51 assists and 152 points.

Corey McMahon (Lindenhurst/St. John the Baptist) and freshman
Troy Morris (Long Beach) each netted a goal for the Red Dragons. Senior

Colin Uyeki led all scorers with five points on four goals and one assist for Wesleyan. Ronan Jacoby scored three times, Carter Hawthorne registered one goal and two assists and Scott Irwin tallied one goal and one assist. Christian Barker, Jake Sexton, Tom Martello and Zander Kotsen scored one goal apiece, Corey Aviles handed out two assists and Sean Penney and Matt Chase contributed one assist. Goalie Otto Bohan made 10 saves.
Wesleyan took a 3-2 lead after the first quarter as Uyeki, Barker and McMahon netted goals for the Cardinals and McMahon and Morris scored for Cortland. The Cardinbals went up 5-2 at the 10:28 mark before Panariello's first goal at 2:45 made it a 5-3 game. Uyeki then scored his second goal of the game just 45 seconds before intermission to make it a 6-2 game.
The Cardinals took control of the game by scoring the first five goals of the third quarter, building an 11-3 lead with 6:30 on the clock. Panariello ended the run with his milestone goal at 5:31, but Jacoby closed the quarter with his third goal of the game at 1:52 to put Wesleyan up 12-4. In a penalty-filled fourth quarter that included seven infractions, Irwin and Panariello exchanged early goals and the score held up for the final of 13-5.
