CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland men's lacrosse team scored 11-of-12 goals spanning the second to fourth quarters to erase an early deficit and earned a 13-7 win versus Nazareth College in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 1-2. The Golden Flyers dropped to 1-3.

Terrence Haggerty (Centerport/Harborfields) led seven Cortland goal scorers with a game-high four. Senior
Joey Panariello (Islip) recorded a game-best five points on three goals and two assists. Freshman
Dante Yacavone (Homer) tallied two goals and one assist, junior
Corey McMahon (Lindenhurst/St. John the Baptist) contributed one goal and one assist, while seniors
Dean Riley (Homer) and
Cam LaPorta (Centerport/Harborfields) and sophomore
Brandon Stiles (Mastic/Eastport-South Manor) each netted a goal. Sophomore
Rob Free (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) added an assist.

Jon Vargas (West Islip) turned aside 17 shots in 56:18 in his first start as a Red Dragon. Freshman
Marc Esposito (West Babylon) made two saves over the final 3:42 in his first career action. Sophomore
Brandon Croteau (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) led the Red Dragons with six ground balls. Panariello, junior

Jacob Rivers (Homer) collected four ground balls apiece, and freshman
Justin Wainwright (Homer) caused two turnovers.
Senior Jack Crowley (Orchard Park) and freshman Matthew Vanliew (Auburn) paced Nazareth's offense with two goals each with Vanliew adding an assist. Juniors Jon Lippert (Tully) and Tristan Gosselin (Hanover, NH) and sophomore Jeremy Jacob (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) scored one goal apiece. Junior Colin McElligott (Spencerport) and freshmen Jon Parrinello (Penfield/Aquinas) and Tate Martinez (Laporte, CO/Rocky Mountain) collected an assist.
Freshman goalie Eric Almquist (Wakefield, MA/Malden Catholic) registered 15 saves. Junior Tim Vinton (Mont Vernon, NH/Souhegan) won 14-of-23 facoffs and scooped up a game-high eight ground balls. Senior Jordan Goldbourn (Elmira) and junior Drew McNerney (Tully) each secured four ground balls.
Nazareth grabbed a 3-2 lead after the first quarter of play as Vanliew netted a pair of goals. After Jacobs put the Golden Flyers up 4-2 early in the second quarter, Cortland went on a six-goal run to open up an 8-4 lead at the 2:51 mark. Haggerty scored three times and Yacavone netted his two goals during the streak. Lippert ended the run at 2:17, but LaPorta gave the Red Dragons a 9-5 lead at intermission with his goal just 6.7 seconds before the half.
Panariello's man-up goal in the third quarter was the lone score, and Cortland took a 10-5 advantage into the final 15 minutes of play. The lead grew to 13-5 at the 3:42 mark as Haggerty, Panariello and Riley each scored. Crowley and Gosselin netted a pair of late goals for Nazareth for the 13-7 final.
