LANCASTER, PA. – The nationally 15th-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team recorded 10 goals but was unable to keep pace with fourth-ranked Franklin & Marshall as the Diplomats defeated the Red Dragons, 16-10, in non-conference play Saturday afternoon. With the loss, Cortland drops to 1-1, while Franklin & Marshall improves to 4-1 with the victory.
Sophomore
Cecilia Procopio (Syracuse/West Genesee) recorded a team-high three points for the Red Dragons on one goal and two assists. Juniors
Lexie Meager (Syracuse/West Genesee),
Baylee Ojeda (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) and
Brie Yonge (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) each scored two goals.
Sophomore
Hannah Lorenzen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) recorded one goal and one assist, while junior
Molly Newton (Skaneateles) and senior
Carly Stone (Syracuse/Jamesville-DeWitt) tallied one goal for Cortland.

Annie Casey (Bay Shore) made 15 saves in 57:22 of game time for the Cortland. Sophomore
Paige Potter (Cortland) played the final 2:38. Freshman
Amanda Squillini (Stony Point/North Rockland) caused one turnover and recovered two ground balls.
Ally Marino and Maddie Hughes led the Diplomats with a game-high five points. Marino recorded four goals and one assist, and Hughes tallied one goal and four assists. Maisie O'Shea, Jane Cote and Caroline Kolva each chipped in with two goals. Franklin & Marshall had a total of 10 different goal scorers in the game.
Goalie Julia McKay made six saves and also recorded four caused turnovers. Maggie Hanzsche recorded six ground balls and two caused turnovers and Hughes scooped up three ground balls to go along with two draw controls and one caused turnover.
The Diplomats got out to an early 4-1 lead with just 4:10 elapsed from the game clock in the first half. Despite a few back-and-forth goals between the two teams, Franklin & Marshall ended the first half with an 11-5 lead.
The second half brought more back-and-forth action. The Red Dragons scored three unanswered goals in a near 10-minute stretch to cut the lead to four at 14-10 with 3:14 remaining. However, Franklin & Marshall sealed the win with the game's final two goals for the 16-10 final.
The Red Dragons return to action on Tuesday, March 12, when they take on Union in their home opener. That game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the Stadium Complex.
