CORTLAND, N.Y. – Ten different players scored goals as the nationally 18th-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team earned an 18-4 victory versus Buffalo St. Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 8-4 overall and 5-0 in the conference. The Bengals fell to 5-7 and 1-4.
Sophomore
Emily Goebel (Penfield) led Cortland with three goals. Seniors
Carly Stone (Syracuse/Jamesville-DeWitt) and
Madison Lyon (Tully) each recorded two goals and one assist. Juniors
Brie Yonge (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) and
Baylee Ojeda (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) and sophomores
Hannah Lorenzen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) and
Paige Hommel (East Islip/St. John the Baptist) netted two goals apiece.

Hannah Keech (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) and
Shelby Meduski (East Quogue/Westhampton Beach) each chipped in with a goal for the Red Dragons with Meduski's being the first of her career. Junior
Molly Newton (Skaneateles) recorded three assists, freshman
Katie Goodrich (Jordan/Jordan-Elbridge) contributed two assists, and junior
Lexie Meager (Syracuse/West Genesee) added one assist.
Sophomore
Annie Casey (Bay Shore) started in goal for Cortland, making two saves in the first half. Sophomore
Paige Potter (Cortland) stopped one shot in 22:44, and freshman
Shauna Meehan (Suffern) did not register a save over the final 7:16. Junior
Jordynn Aiello (Centereach/Newfield) collected four ground balls and caused four turnovers, Meduski recorded three caused turnovers and sophomore
Melissa Tonn (West Islip) secured three ground balls.
Senior Jackie Dufresne (Lake View/Frontier) paced Buffalo St.'s offense with three goals. Senior Kendall Skuse (Churchville/Churchville-Chili) tallied one goal and one assist, and junior Hannah Nagowski (Lancaster) picked up two assists. Freshman goalie Janae Nelson (Elmont/Elmont Memorial) turned aside nine shots. Dufresne won four draws, and junior Hailey Whitney (West Seneca/West Seneca East) scooped up three ground balls.
The Red Dragons scored the first 10 goals of the game, as seven different players found the back of the net, and took an 11-1 lead at the half. Cortland pushed its advantage to 14-1 at the 19:44 mark of the second half and 16-2 with 13:50 to play. The teams then split the game's last four goals for the 18-4 final.
Cortland outshot Buffalo St., 34-7, in the game and held a 24-16 advantage in ground balls and a 13-11 edge in draw controls. The Red Dragons forced 14 turnovers and held the Bengals to 10-for-21 on clears.
