Yonge and Newton Reach 100 Career Points in 21-6 Win at New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. –  Juniors Brie Yonge (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) and Molly Newton (Skaneateles) each eclipsed 100 career points as the nationally 18th-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team defeated New Paltz, 21-6, Wednesday afternoon in SUNYAC action. The Red Dragons improved to 9-4 overall and 6-0 in the conference. The Hawks dropped to 8-5 and 4-3.

Yonge totaled one goal and two assists and became the 46th player in program history to reach 100 points on her goal 2:46 into the game assisted by Newton. Yonge now has 102 points on 67 goals and 35 assists. Newton hit the century mark with her second assist of the game 5:16 before the half. She finished with three goals and two assists and currently has 103 points on 53 goals and 50 assists.

A total of 11 different players netted a goal for Cortland led by sophomore Emily Goebel (Penfield), who scored a career-high four goals. Junior Baylee Ojeda (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) tallied three goals and one assist, and senior Carly Stone (Syracuse/Jamesville-DeWitt) and junior Lexie Meager (Syracuse/West Genesee) each recorded two goals and one assist.

Sophomore Paige Hommel (East Islip/St. John the Baptist) scored twice for the Red Dragons. Senior Madison Lyon (Tully), sophomore Keira O'Connor (Waterloo) and freshmen Amy Hoeffner (Bay Shore) and Shelby Meduski (East Quogue/Westhampton Beach) netted one goal apiece. Sophomore Cecilia Procopio (Syracuse/West Genesee) contributed three assists, and sophomore Hannah Lorenzen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) chipped in with one assist.

Sophomore Annie Casey (Bay Shore) started in goal for Cortland, making four saves in the first half. Sophomore Paige Potter (Cortland) stopped one shot in 22:24, and freshman Shauna Meehan (Suffern) did not face a shot on goal over the final 7:36. Meager recorded five draw controls, Stone secured four draws, and Lorenzen won three, and Newton collected six ground balls.

Amy Hofer led New Paltz with two goals and an assist and four draw controls.  Maddy Carullo also tallied two goals, Ashley Seiter and Emily Puciloski each netted a goal and Katie Zito picked up an assist.

Goalie Haley Timarky registered four saves.Jennifer O'Leary scooped up three ground balls and caused two turnovers, and Megan Tornatore recorded three caused turnovers.
