GENESEO, N.Y. - Hannah Marafioti scored her game-high eighth goal four minutes, one second into overtime to lead the Geneseo women's lacrosse team to a 19-18 victory over nationally 18th-ranked Cortland Saturday afternoon in a battle for first place in the conference.

With the win, the Knights improved to 11-4 overall and 7-0 in the conference with two league games remaining. The Red Dragons dropped to 9-5 overall and 6-1 in the SUNYAC.

Sophomore Emily Goebel (Penfield) led Cortland with a career-high five goals. Senior Carly Stone (Syracuse/Jamesville-DeWitt) notched four goals, and junior Lexie Meager (Syracuse/West Genesee) tallied a team-high seven points on three goals and four assists.

Junior Molly Newton (Skaneateles) chipped in with three assists, while sophomore Cecilia Procopio (Syracuse/West Genesee) and freshman Shelby Meduski (East Quogue/Westhampton Beach) contributed one assist apiece for the Red Dragons.

Sophomore goalie Annie Casey (Bay Shore) made seven saves and collected three ground balls for Cortland. Meager won 11 draw controls, Stone secured seven draws and Tiso earned four as Cortland held a 26-14 advantage in the statistic. Sophomore Catie Fleming (Farmingdale) scooped up four ground balls.

The game proved to be a back-and-forth contest with neither team able to build more than a three-goal lead. The first half ended in an 8-8 tie. The Red Dragons were able to go ahead 12-9 at the 21:42 mark of the second half and still led 14-11 with 17:57 to play.

The Knights tied the game with a three-goal run, but Cortland netted three of the next four goals for a 17-15 advantage with 7:20 left in regulation. It was Geneseo's turn to string together three goals, grabbing an 18-17 lead with 2:16 on the clock. Meager tied the game at 1:45 and won the ensuing draw control. A Cortland turnover with just over a minute to play gave the ball back to Geneseo. The Knights worked a successful clear and sent a shot wide with 24 seconds remaining before turning the ball over in the closing seconds to send the game to overtime.

In the first-half of the extra period, Meager won the opening draw but had her shot denied by Rosaschi. After a good clear, Casey stopped a shot by Marafioti, which led to a successful Cortland clear and a shot wide left by Stone, sending the game into the second-half of the six-minute overtime. Stone secured the draw control, but the Red Dragons turned the ball over. Geneseo worked a good clear, and, after a timeout, earned the win on Marafioti's goal with 1:59 on the clock.
