Storm Malone (Highland) finished 13th nationally in the 110-meter hurdles and junior
Zach Kashmer (Chili/Churchville-Chili) placed 16th in the decathlon during Day 2 of the NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships at SPIRE Institute.
Malone was fourth in his heat and 13th overall out of 20 competitors with his preliminary time of 14.79 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles. The cutoff for the ninth and final qualifying spot for Saturday's finals was 14.47 seconds.
Malone was making his sixth NCAA championship appearance – three outdoors in the 110-meter hurdles and three indoors in the 60-meter hurdles. He finished his career as a three-time All-American (twice indoors, once outdoors) for previous top-eight showings.
Kashmer finished 16th in the decathlon with a final score of 6,256 points. Will Daniels of Central College won the title with 7,427 points, and the eighth-place All-America cutoff was 6,623 points. Kashmer opened Day 2 by scoring 777 points in the 110-meter hurdles (15.61 seconds) – the ninth-best performance in the field of 20 competitors – and he recorded a discus throw of 29.99 meters (98' 5") for 464 points.
Kashmer was the third-best pole vaulter in the competition with a career-best height of 4.50 meters (14' 9") for 760 points. He wrapped things up with 331 points in the javelin (32.23 meters/105' 9") and 606 points in the 1,500-meter run (4:52.07). Kashmer's 16th-place national finish matches his showing in the heptathlon during this past winter's NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

In addition, on the women's side, Maya Campbell (Valley Stream/Valley Stream South) will compete in the triple jump, and the quartet of Kelly Gardner (Lake Ronkonkoma/Sachem North), Campbell, Steffany Batista (Spring Valley/Ramapo) and Taylor Hunter (Buffalo/Tapestry Charter) will run in the finals of the 4x100-meter relay.
