NORTHAMPTON, MA. – Eight different players scored goals as the Cortland field hockey team opened its season with a 9-1 victory over Maine-Farmington at the Smith College Caryl Newhof Classic. The Red Dragons advance to face host Smith in the title game, Sunday at 1 p.m.
Freshman
Lily Fox (Northport) led Cortland with a pair of goals, the first of her career. Senior
Molly Quinlan (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) had a goal and two assists. Senior
Hannah Burchell (Whitney Point), senior
Sara Reardon (Little Falls), juniors
Allie Bianchi (Richmond, VT),
Erin Hallenbeck (Claverack/Taconic Hills) and
Brynn Crocker (Harpursville) and sophomore
Annie Kase (Rochester/Brighton) each tallied a goal, and senior
Kelly Durso (East Islip) chipped in with an assist.

Marisa D'Amico (Smithtown/Smithtown West) did not stop a shot in 48:15 before giving way to sophomore
Megan McGuinness (Carle Place), who turned aside three shots in 11:45. Burchell also recorded a defensive save.
Olivia Kunesh scored the goal for the Beavers (0-1). Goalie Grace DiMarco registered five saves.
Cortland went up, 2-0, after the first quarter on goals from Kase and Burchell. The lead grew to 6-0 at the half as Crocker, Reardon, Bianchi and Hallenbeck each scored. Fox tallied a pair of goals early in the third quarter to make it an 8-0 game. Kunesh put Maine-Farmington on the scoreboard 1:51 into the fourth quarter before Quinlan finished the scoring at the 48:15 mark.
