BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Senior
Molly Quinlan (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) scored 1:02 into overtime to give the Cortland field hockey team a 2-1 victory at Brockport Friday afternoon in SUNYAC action. The Red Dragons improved to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference with their second straight 2-1 win in extra time.
Freshman
Lily Fox (Northport) also tallied a goal for Cortland, and senior
Hannah Burchell (Whitney Point) added an assist. Senior goalie
Marisa D'Amico (Smithtown/Smithtown West) turned aside seven shots, and senior
Sara Reardon (Little Falls) recorded a defensive save.
Meaghan Lurz scored the goal for Brockport off an assist from Emily Hall. Goalie Cara Fox made six saves, and Olivia Douglas and Bella Addesa each picked up a defensive save.
Fox gave Cortland a 1-0 lead at the 21:53 mark with Burchell assisting on the score. Lurz tied the game exactly 10 minutes into the third quarter. In overtime, Quinlan stole the ball, passed off to a teammate and received the ball back. She dribbled on goal but had her shot attempt stuffed by Fox. With both teams fighting for possession, Quinlan stuffed in a shot for the game winner.
