Red Dragons Lose Tight SUNYAC Game to Fredonia, 3-2

CORTLAND, N.Y. - Freshman Chandler Judd (Greenville, SC/Charlotte Rush) scored his first career goal late in the second period to break a 2-2 tie as Fredonia skated to a 3-2 victory at Cortland Friday night in SUNYAC action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons dropped to 12-11-1 overall and 5-10 in the conference. The Blue Devils improved to 7-10-7 and 4-8-3.

Senior Stefano Alonzi (King City, ON/Burlington Cougars) and junior Alex Storjohann (Phoenix, AZ/Kirkland Lake) netted goals for Cortland. Senior Douglas Elgstam (Stockholm, Sweden/New Jersey Rockets) and freshman Trevor Veneklase (Brentwood, TN/Seahawks Hockey Club) each recorded an assist. Senior goalie Nick Modica (Suffern/New Jersey Hitmen) mde 31 saves.

Junior Victor Tracy (Danderyd, Sweden/Kemptville 73's) and sophomore Ethan Kirbis (Clarence/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) also scored goals for Fredonia. Senior Jacob Haynes (Whitby, ON/Fresno Monsters) collected two assists, and four others each registered an assist. Senior goalie Anton Rosen (Orsa, Sweden/Northwood School) stopped 34 shots.

The Blue Devils took a 2-0 lead after one period of play. Tracy scored on a wrist shot through traffic on the power play at 5:01, and Kirbis finished off a 3-on-2 with a wrist shot at 14:16.

Cortland fought back to tie the game at 2-2 in the second period. Storjohann forced a turnover in Fredonia's defensive zone and netted his eighth goal of the season from the slot at 4:11, before Alonzi's rebound goal at 15:40 pulled the Red Dragons even. Less than three minutes later, Judd scored the game winner on a rebound from the left side of the crease.

Cortland outshot Fredonia, 11-5, in the third period, and pulled Modica for an extra skater with 1:45 remaining. The Red Dragons pressured the Blue Devils with five shots on goal, but Rosen turned aside each one as Fredonia held on for the 3-2 win.

The Red Dragons close out their regular season tomorrow at home versus Buffalo St. at 5 p.m.
