Red Dragons Top Morrisville St., 8-0

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally 18th-ranked Cortland field hockey team controlled play from start to finish in earning an 8-0 victory versus Morrisville St. Wednesday afternoon in SUNYAC action at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 12-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference with the win.

Sophomores Madison Rice (Greene/Greene Central) and Sidney DeMagistris (Gloversville) each tallied a pair of goals to lead the Cortland offense. Freshmen Jamie Snyder (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse), Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland) and Hanna Corrigan (Barneveld/Holland Patent) recorded one goal and one assist apiece. Senior Madison Becker (Moravia) notched a goal, while senior Annie Kase (Rochester/Brighton) and junior Lily Fox (Northport) chipped in with an assist.

Senior goalie Megan McGuinness (Carle Place) did not face a shot in posting the shutout for the Red Dragons. Junior goalie Morgan Dueber (Owego/Owego Free Academy) registered 29 saves for the Mustangs (3-7, 0-4 SUNYAC), including a stop on a second-quarter Cortland penalty stroke.

The Red Dragons scored two goals in each quarter to steadily pull away in the game. Snyder opened the scoring 3:44 into the contest with a one-time shot inside the left post. Ettere then scored her team-high 19th goal of the season at 6:49, dribbling by a defender and beating Dueber one-on-one in front.

Corrigan scored on a one-time shot off a cross from the left at 23:58 before Becker's goal on a rebound 3:39 before the half made it a 4-0 score. Rice tallied back-to-back goals in the third quarter to push Cortland's lead to 6-0. Her first effort came on a redirect at 35:11, and her second goal came just under three minutes later when she scored on a deflection off a penalty corner.

DeMagistris completed the scoring in the fourth quarter with her first two goals of her career. With 4:27 remaining, she fired a shot through Dueber's pads from the right side of the circle. Then just 26 seconds later, she one-timed a cross from the right for the 8-0 final.
