BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Freshman
Hanna Corrigan (Barneveld/Holland Patent) tallied a season-high seven points on two goals and three assists in leading the nationally 18th-ranked Cortland field hockey team to a 7-1 win at Brockport Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action. The Red Dragons improved to 10-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference. The Golden Eagles fell to 5-5 and 0-2.
Freshman
Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland) continued her streak of picking up at least one point in every game this season with a pair of goals for Cortland. Senior
Madison Becker (Moravia) and sophomore
Madison Rice (Greene/Greene Central) each added a goal, while freshman
Carolena Purpura (Centerport/Harborfields) registered her first career goal. Freshman
Jamie Snyder (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) chipped in with an assist. Senior goalie
Megan McGuinness (Carle Place) made one save.
Katie Ziemba scored Brockport's goal with Kayli Burr recording an assist. Goalie Emma Acevedo made 14 saves through three quarters before giving way to Ella Buchanan, who stopped all three shots she faced in the fourth quarter.
Corrigan gave Cortland the lead 6:30 into the game with an unassisted goal. She then set up Becker's goal at the 20:20 mark and the Red Dragons took a 2-0 lead into the half. Cortland broke open the game in the third quarter with a five-goal flurry. Ettere scored twice, Corrigan picked up a goal and two assists and Purpura and Rice each scored.
The Golden Eagles spoiled the shutout bid with 5:22 to play as Burr set up Ziemba's goal for the 7-1 final.
