ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Cortland women's soccer team opened up a 4-0 lead at the half and went on to earn a 5-0 victory at Oneonta Friday afternoon in SUNYAC action. The visiting Red Dragons improved to 8-4-2 overall and 6-1-1 in the conference, while the host Red Dragons dropped to 1-11-1 and 1-6-1.
Senior
Jaden Galluzzo (Commack) led Cortland with two goals. Junior
Lizzy Sabatelle (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham) and sophomores
Simone Neivel (Syracuse/C.W. Baker) and
Madison Tortora (Spencerport) each netted a goal. Freshman
Katie Cosenza (East Setauket/Ward Melville) recorded two assists, and graduate student
Alannah O'Shea (New Hyde Park/Herricks) and sophomore
Erica Gangemi (Syracuse/Westhill) collected one assist apiece.
Junior
Lexi Ramonetti (Northport) started in goal for Cortland, making two saves in the first half. Junior
Kiersten Becker (Guilderland) stopped one shot in the second half. Goalie Claire Lepper turned aside nine shots for Oneonta.
Galluzzo scored what proved to be the game winner five minutes into the game. Neivel made it a 2-0 score in the 19th minute with her seventh goal of the season. Sabatelle's sixth goal of the campaign pushed the lead to 3-0 in the 27th minute before Galluzzo's team-high eighth goal made it a 4-0 score at intermission. Tortora capped the scoring with her third goal of the season in the 51st minute for the 5-0 final.
