NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Cortland and New Paltz women's soccer teams played to a 2-2 double-overtime tie in the SUNYAC season finale for both teams Saturday afternoon. With the tie, the Red Dragons earned the third seed in the upcoming conference playoffs and will host sixth-seeded Brockport in a first-round game next Saturday.
Junior
Sabrina Rodrigues (West Hempstead) scored both of the goals for Cortland (8-4-3, 6-1-2). Senior
Jaden Galluzzo (Commack) and junior
Bryn Thompson (Hopewell Junction/Arlington) each recorded an assist. Junior goalie
Lexi Ramonetti (Northport) made two saves.
Katie Buquicchio tallied both of the goals for New Paltz (7-5-3, 5-2-2), which secured the fourth seed in the league tournament. Emma Voege assisted on both scores. Goalie Kyra Russo stopped five shots.
Rodrigues opened the scoring in the 13th minute with her fourth goal of the season off an assist from Galluzzo. Buquicchio tied the game in the 39th minute and gave the Hawks the lead in the 59th minute with her fourth goal of the season. Rodrigues sent the game into overtime with Thompson assisting in the 71st minute.
In the first 10-minute overtime period, Russo made a save on a shot by Galluzzo in the 96th minute, and a New Paltz defender cleared Cortland sophomore
Simone Neivel's (Syracuse/C.W. Baker) bid for the game winner off the line in the 98th minute. The Red Dragons generated two more shots on goal in the second extra period, but Russo made saves on freshman
Isabella Auth's (Mount Sinai) attempt in the 102nd minute and junior
Lizzy Sabatelle's (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham) shot with 40 seconds remaining to keep the game tied.
