#16 Red Dragons Wrap SUNYAC Slate with 3-0 Win at Oswego

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Junior Lily Fox (Northport) factored in on all three goals as the nationally 16th-ranked Cortland field hockey team defeated Oswego, 3-0, on the road Wednesday afternoon in the SUNYAC regular-season finale for both teams. The Red Dragons improved to 14-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference and secured the second seed in the upcoming league playoffs. The Lakers dropped to 8-8 and 2-4.

Fox finished the game with two goals and one assist, pushing her season point total to 32 to 11 goals and 10 assists. Freshman Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland) continued the stellar start to her Red Dragon career with her team-high 23rd goal of the season to extend her point-scoring streak to all 15 games, which is a program record.

Senior goalie Megan McGuinness (Carle Place) turned aside four shots in posting her third shutout of the season for Cortland. Goalie Erica Scheblein registered nine saves for the Lakers, and Leah Romanowski recorded a defensive save.

Ettere opened the scoring at the 5:10 mark, knocking in a shot on a penalty corner. Fox then made it a 2-0 game, converting a penalty stroke 1:43 into the second quarter, and notched her second goal for a 3-0 Red Dragon lead 2:03 before the half.

The Red Dragons outshot Oswego, 13-8, in the second half with Scheblein making seven saves and McGuinness turning aside four shots in the fourth quarter to preserve the shutout and the 3-0 victory.

Cortland concludes its regular season at Skidmore on Saturday before hosting third-seeded Geneseo in the SUNYAC Semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m.
