Cortland Women Pick Up 128-119 Dual-Meet Win at Buffalo State

Abbey Gittschau won both the 500-yard and 1,000-yard freestyle races
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Three Red Dragons were double winners as Cortland defeated host Buffalo State, 128-119, in a women's swimming and diving dual meet on Saturday afternoon.
 
Abbey Gittschau (Camillus/West Genesee) finished first in both the 500-yard freestyle (5:57.57) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:13.50), while Emily Lantry (Massena/St. Lawrence) captured both the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.01) and 200-yard backstroke (2:19.30). Ashley Zachgo (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) was the top point scorer in both diving events, winning the 1-meter event with 241.35 points and recording a top score of 254.35 points as an exhibition entry in the 3-meter event.
 
Marissa Kordal (Eden) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:24.59) and was second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:49.98). Julia Torell (Camillus/CBA) was the 50-yard backstroke winner (30.67) and finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (27.18).
 
Also for the Red Dragons, the combination of Anna Stahurski (Oakdale/Connetquot), Madi Monaghan (Chili/Gates-Chili), Kaila O'Hara (East Islip) and Lantry turned in the fastest time in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:46.78) as an exhibition entry.
 
Cortland returns to action next Saturday with a dual meet at Geneseo.
