Red Dragons Skate to 2-2 OT Tie at #1 Geneseo

GENESEO, N.Y. - Senior Ethan Homitz (Allison Park, PA/New Hampshire Monarchs) scored a power-play goal with 2:51 remaining in regulation to lift the Cortland men's hockey team to a 2-2 overtime tie at nationally top-ranked Geneseo Friday night in SUNYAC action.

Freshman Domenic Settimo (East Meadow/PAL Junior Islanders) also netted a goal for the Red Dragons (3-2-1, 1-1-1-1 SUNYAC). Freshman Johnny Facchini (Succasunna, NJ/PAL Junior Islanders) recorded two assists, while junior Trevor Veneklase (Brentwood, TN/Seahawks Hockey Club) and sophomore Nate Berke (Williamsville/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) each collected one assist. Junior goalie Luca Durante (Brampton, ON/Aurora Tigers) turned aside 38 shots.

Peter Morgan and Ryan Burnett each scored goals for the Knights (5-0-1, 3-0-1 SUNYAC). Tyson Gilmour, Justin Cmunt and Stefan Miklakos picked up one assist apiece. Goalie Adam Harris registered 26 saves.

After a scoreless first period, Morgan gave Geneseo the lead at 10:30 of the second period, scoring his fourth goal of the season while the Knights skated with a two-man advantage. Settimo's third goal of the season tied the game at the 14:09 mark.

The Knights went ahead, 2-1, on Burnett's goal 4:50 into the third period, but Homitz tied the game with his second goal of the season as Cortland skated with the man advantage. Just over one minute later, the Red Dragons took a penalty but successfully killed off the power-play attempt for the remainder of the third period and early in the overtime. In the five-minute extra session, with the teams skating three aside, Cortland outshot the Knights, 3-1, but the game ended in the 2-2 tie.
