PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The third-seeded Cortland women's soccer team jumped out to an early lead in earning a 3-0 win at second-seeded Plattsburgh Wednesday afternoon in the semifinals of the 2021 SUNYAC Women's Soccer Tournament. The Red Dragons improved to 10-4-3 on the season and advanced to face top-seeded Geneseo on the road this Saturday in the championship game. The Cardinals dropped to 12-4-2 with the setback.
Senior
Jaden Galluzzo (Commack) was involved in all three Cortland goals, scoring her 10th and 11th goals of the season and adding an assist. Freshman
Isabella Auth (Mount Sinai) netted her first career goal, and graduate student
Alannah O'Shea (New Hyde Park/Herricks) and juniors
Sabrina Rodrigues (West Hempstead) and
Lizzy Sabatelle (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham) each contributed an assist.
Junior goalie
Lexi Ramonetti (Northport) made a career-high 11 saves in raising her record to 8-1-2 this season. Goalie Julia Ennis registered six saves for the Cardinals.
Galluzzo wasted little time in scoring what would prove to be the game-winning goal, giving Cortland a 1-0 lead just 2:52 into the game. She struck again in the 16th minute with Rodrigues and Sabatelle assisting. Auth completed the scoring in the 36th minute off an assist from Galluzzo.
In the second half, Plattsburgh outshot Cortland, 10-4, but Ramonetti was up to the task, turning aside all six of the shots she faced on goal over the final 45 minutes to secure the shutout and the 3-0 victory.
