CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior Ryan Patrick (Morgantown, WV/Philadelphia Rebels) scored a pair of third-period goals as the Stevenson men's hockey team skated to a 2-1 victory versus Cortland Friday afternoon in non-conference action at Alumni Arena. The Mustangs improved to 8-2-1 on the season, while the Red Dragons fell to 5-3-1.
Sophomore
Nate Berke (Williamsville/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) netted a power-play goal for Cortland with senior
Ethan Homitz (Allison Park, PA/New Hampshire Monarchs) and junior
Trevor Veneklase (Brentwood, TN/Seahawks Hockey Club) collecting assists. Senior goalie
Owen Zdunski (Findlay Lake/Chippewa Steel) made 30 saves in his first start of the season.
Sophomore Frank Vitucci (Yardley, PA/Alabama-Huntsville) recorded two assists, and freshmen Malcolm Palmer (Westerville, OH/Lone Star Brahmas) and Liam McCanney (Aidan, PA/Northeast Generals) each chipped in with one assist for Stevenson. Junior goalie Ryan Kenny (Sparta, NJ/Islanders Hockey Club) turned aside 46 shots.
After the teams played 40 minutes of scoreless hockey, Patrick put the Mustangs on the scoreboard just 33 seconds into the third period when he knocked in a loose puck in front. Patrick's second goal at the 9:46 mark came on a rebound right in front put the Mustangs ahead, 2-0. With 4:33 to play, Cortland pulled Zdunski for an extra skater. The Red Dragons earned a power play at 15:36 but did not capitalize. A second Stevenson penalty with 28 seconds remaining led to another Cortland power-play opportunity. Berke took advantage of the Red Dragons' two-player advantage, knocking in a loose puck with 2.8 seconds remaining for the 2-1 final.
