CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland scored 55 points, including 10 of its 12 3-pointers, during the second half as the Red Dragons overcame a small halftime deficit and defeated visiting Brockport, 82-52, in SUNYAC women's basketball action.
Cortland won its fourth straight game and is now 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Red Dragons will play at Fredonia Saturday at 2 p.m. Brockport fell to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the league and will host Oswego Saturday.
Casey Travers (Manorville/Eastport-South Manor) led four Cortland double-figure scorers with 15 points and also amassed three assists, five rebounds and two stealss.
Corinne Miedreich (Pearl River) scored 13 points and handed out three assists,
Maggie Malone (Cornwall) ended with 11 points and five steals, and
Nyia Longford (Medford/Longwood) added 10 points and six rebounds.
Also for the Red Dragons,
Sarah Tully (East Aurora) scored nine points and shared the team lead with Longford with six rebounds.
Shannon McGuire (West Babylon) scored eight points, pulled down five rebounds and led the squad with eight assists,
Abby McCoy (Franklinville/Ten Broeck Academy) hit two fourth-quarter 3-pointers to finish with six points, and
Stef Gera (Auburn) made two bucket in the fourth quarter to end with five points.
Kylee Rosbrook was Brockport's lone double-figure scorer with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting. She also had five rebounds and two blocks. Chelsea Henry tallied eight points and Erin Nolan led the Golden Eagles with seven rebounds.
Brockport led 15-10 after one quarter and 29-27 at halftime. Neither team held larger than a five-point lead in the half. Brockport shot 52 percent from the floor over the opening 20 minutes while Cortland shot 38 percent, including only 20 percent (2-for-10) from 3-point range.
The second half was a completely different story. Cortland hit 55 percent of its shots over the final two quarters, including 56 percent (10-for-18) from long range, while Brockport was held to 22 percent from the field after halftime. Eight different Red Dragons made at least one 3-pointer, including two apiece by Travers, McGuire, Miedreich and McCoy.
The Red Dragons were up by only four, 42-38, with 2:48 remaining in the third before finishing the period on an 8-0 run, and the lead never dipped below double figures in the fourth. Cortland closed the game by outscoring Brockport by a 24-8 clip over the final seven minutes.
