Cortland Women Win Snow Flurries Invitational

Marissa Kordal won the 200-yard butterfly and was second in the 400-yard IM
CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's swimming and diving team claimed the team crown at the six-team Snow Flurries Invitational, hosted by the Red Dragons Friday and Saturday at Holsten Pool.
 
Cortland scored 955 points, with Oneonta the runner-up with 703 points. Oswego (521), Fredonia (515), Buffalo State (348) and Potsdam (308) rounded out the field.
 
The Red Dragon divers made a major contribution to the victory by sweeping the top four spots on both boards. Taylor Williams (Slate Hill/Minisink Valley) won both the 1-meter (412.75 points) and 3-meter (423.10 points) competitions, while Ashley Zachgo (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) was second in both events with 370.70 points on 1-meter and 396.95 points on 3-meter. Adriane Casey (West Islip) placed third on the 1-meter board (340.10 points) and fourth in the 3-meter event (312.90 points), while Nicole Bellettiere (Slate Hill/Minisink Valley) was third on 3-meter (334.80 points) and fourth on 1-meter (329.10 points).
 
Marisa Kordal (Eden) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:27.04) and placed second in the 400-yard individual medley (5:07.23). Julia Torell (Camillus/CBA) won the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.07) and finished third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:23.34), and Madi Monaghan (Chili/Gates-Chili) won the 200-yard IM (2:21.45).
 
The quartet of Monaghan, Mackenzie Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central), Torell and Kordal won the 400-yard medley relay (4:20.08). Kordal, Kailyn Anselment (Queensbury/Glens Falls), Emily Lantry (Massena/St. Lawrence) and Monaghan were runner-up in the 800-yard freestyle relay (8:25.82), while Monaghan, Torell, Anselment and Kordal teamed for second place in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:51.60).
 
Other highlights included runner-up showings by Lantry in the 200-yard backstroke (2:19.65) and Dickman in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:44.15) and third-place efforts by Anselment in the 400-yard IM (5:08.15) and Iris Incitti (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.93).
