#22 Cortland Blanks Potsdam, 19-0

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The nationally 22nd-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team opened up a 14-0 lead after the first half and went on to defeat Potsdam, 19-0, in SUNYAC East action Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while the Bears fell to 1-2 and 0-2.

Eleven different players scored goals for Cortland, led by junior Hannah Keech (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) with three goals and one assist and freshman Toni Cashman (East Moriches/Westhampton Beach) also with three goals. Senior Hannah Tiso (Somers)matched her career high with six points on two goals and a career-best four assists, senior Cecilia Procopio (Syracuse/West Genesee) and sophomores Rachel Janis (Laurel/Mattituck) and Kiki Meager (Syracuse/West Genesee) each recorded two goals and one assist.

Senior Emily Goebel (Penfield) contributed one goal and one assist for the Red Dragons. Senior Paige Hommel (East Islip/St. John the Baptist) and juniors Katie Goodrich (Jordan/Jordan-Elbridge) and Amy Hoeffner (Bay Shore) scored a goal, freshman Holly Wright (Huntington) netted her first career goal and sophomore Chloe Loewenguth (DeWitt/Jamesville-DeWitt) picked up her first career point with an assist.

Senior goalie Paige Potter (Cortland) only faced four shots, stopping the lone one on the cage for the Red Dragons. Meager secured 10 draw controls and collected three ground balls. Keech scooped up four ground balls, Cashman and seniors Kayla Sweeney (Baldwinsville /C.W. Baker) and Catie Fleming (Massapequa/Farmingdale) each caused two turnovers.

Goalie Netta Terrance made 14 saves and registered two ground balls for the Bears. Calena Rodriguez finished with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Cortland took control early, building a 5-0 lead less than five minutes into the game. The advantage grew to 10-0 just past the midway point of the opening half and the Red Dragons eventually led, 14-0, at the break. Cortland added five more second-half goals as the team went deep into its bench for the 19-0 final.
