#18 Red Dragons Run Away with 22-5 Win vs. Plattsburgh

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Ten different players scored goals as th nationally 18th-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team cruised to a 22-5 victory versus Plattsburgh in SUNYAC East action Saturday afternoon at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons won their fifth straight game, improving to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference. The game was the season-opener for the Cardinals.

Freshman Toni Cashman (East Moriches/Westhampton Beach) scored a career-high six points on a career-best five goals and one assist to lead the Cortland offense. Junior Amy Hoeffner (Bay Shore) tallied four goals and one assist, senior Hannah Lorenzen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) finished with three goals and two assists and senior Cecilia Procopio (Syracuse/West Genesee) added three goals and one assist.

Senior Emily Goebel (Penfield) recorded two goals and one assist, senior Hannah Tiso (Somers) contributed one goal and two assists, and junior Shelby Meduski (East Quogue/Westhampton Beach) and sophomores Kiki Meager (Syracuse/West Genesee), Madelyn Czyz (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) and Sydney Stamboly (Rome/Rome Free Academy) each netted a goal. Junior Katie Goodrich (Jordan/Jordan-Elbridge) and sophomore Chloe Loewenguth (DeWitt/Jamesville-DeWitt) collected one assist apiece.

Senior goalie Paige Potter (Cortland) registered seven saves and scooped up four ground balls for the Red Dragons. Hoeffner added three ground balls and two caused turnovers, seniors Kayla Sweeney (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) and Catie Fleming (Massapequa/Farmingdale) recorded three ground balls and Lorenzen secured seven draw controls.

Sophomore Emma McLaughlin (Northport) scored twice for Plattsburgh. Junior Allie Vangas (Cornwall-on-Hudson/Cornwall) tallied one goal and one assist, and sophomore Lindsay Guzzetta (East Islip) and freshman Fiona Fitzgerald (Long Beach/Holy Trinity) each netted a goal.

Freshman goalie Johanna Malone (Levittown/Division Avenue) made five saves in the opening half, while junior goalie Alexa Cassidy (Warwick/Warwick Valley) stopped five shots in the second half for the Cardinals. Guzzetta added three draws and two ground balls, and freshman Jordan Kowalski (Westfield, MA) secured three draws.
