#17 Cortland Closes Regular Season with 14-2 Win at Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The nationally 17th-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team scored the first 10 goals of the game in earning a 14-2 victory at Plattsburgh Monday afternoon in SUNYAC East action. The Red Dragons closed out their regular season with their 10th consecutive win, improving to 10-1 overall and 8-0 in the division, and host Geneseo in a SUNYAC semifinal at 4 p.m. this Thursday. The Cardinals fell to 2-6 overall and in conference play.

Senior Hannah Lorenzen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) led Cortland with six points on four goals and two assists, and junior Hannah Keech (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) also netted four goals. Senior Emily Goebel (Penfield) scored three goals, junior Katie Goodrich (Jordan/Jordan-Elbridge) notched two goals, sophomore Kiki Meager (Syracuse/West Genesee) picked up a goal, senior Cecilia Procopio (Syracuse/West Genesee) collected two assists and senor Hannah Tiso (Somers) and sophomore Rachel Janis (Laurel/Mattituck) each recorded one assist.

Senior goalie Paige Potter (Cortland) registered 11 saves for the Red Dragons. Senior Kayla Petre (Hauppauge) scooped up three ground balls and caused two turnovers, junior Shelby Meduski (East Quogue/Westhampton Beach) and freshman Holly Wright (Huntington) recorded two ground balls and two caused turnovers apiece, Lorenzen secured three ground balls and Meager won four draw controls.

Caroline Noia and Lindsay Guzzetta scored Plattsburgh's goals. Goalie Alexa Cassidy made 11 saves. Nikki Scioscia collected three ground balls and caused two turnovers, Emma McLaughlin finished with three ground balls and Frankie Porcaro won three draw controls.

The Red Dragons opened up a 7-0 lead at the half as Keech scored three times and Goebel netted a pair of goals. The advantage grew to 10-0 at the 23:03 mark of the second half before Noia put the Cardinals on the scoreboard at 21:10 with her unassisted goal. Cortland scored the next four goals, including two from Lorenzen, to push its lead to 14-1, and Guzzetta's free-position goal at 4:00 completed the scoring for the 14-2 final.
