Red Dragons Fall to #12 St. John Fisher, 13-9

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally 12th-ranked St. John Fisher men's lacrosse team closed the game on a 4-0 run and earned a 13-9 victory at Cortland Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action. The Red Dragons dropped to 2-3, while the Cardinals improved to 7-3.

Junior Dante Yacavone (Homer) led Cortland with three goals and one assist, and senior Zak Jones (East Quogue/Westhampton Beach) tallied two goals and one assist. Juniors Pat Doyen (Miller Place) and Kyle Boden (Wading River/Shoreham-Wading River) and sophomore Luke Kilner (Highland Falls/James I. O'Neill) each netted a goal, freshman Colton Smith (Naples/Penn Yan Academy) scored his first career goal and junior Troy Morris (Long Beach) chipped in with two assists.

Junior goalie Marc Esposito (West Babylon) turned aside 15 shots for the Red Dragons. Senior Brian Williams (Holtsville/Sachem East) collected six ground balls, and Morris, seniors Brandon Stiles (Mastic/Eastport-South Manor) and Brandon Croteau (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) recorded two ground balls and one caused turnover apiece.

Junior Ian Evans (LaFayette) paced the St. John Fisher offense with five goals. Senior Jack Mulvihill (DeWitt/Jamesville-DeWitt) registered two goals and three assists, senior Nicholas Miller (Ithaca) scored twice, junior Jordan Depetres (Hilton) added one goal and one assist and four others each netted a goal.

Graduate student Darin Eakins (Hamburg, Germany/International School of Hamburg) stopped 12 shots in goal and scooped up four ground balls for the Cardinals. Senior Joe Post (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) won 20-of-25 faceoffs and secured 17 ground balls, while freshman Joe Urlacher (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) caused two turnovers.
