Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Corrigan Scores Twice, Including Late Game Winner, in 2-1 Victory at Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. – Freshman Hanna Corrigan (Barneveld/Holland Patent) scored two second-half goals, including the game winner with two minutes, 52 seconds left, as Cortland rallied past host Ithaca, 2-1, in non-league field hockey action. The Red Dragons improved to 5-0 and are off to their best start since opening the 2010 season with eight straight wins.

Ithaca (3-2) took the lead when Morgan Mullen scored off a rebound with 2:10 remaining in the first quarter. Corrigan knotted the game 1:26 into the third quarter when she poked in a rebound after an initial point-blank save by Ithaca goalie Macy Brandwein.

Corrigan's second goal of the game, and fourth of the season, came when she controlled a ball tapped to her in the circle by freshman Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland) and blasted a shot from straight on. The assist was Ettere's team-high fifth of the season. The Red Dragons withstood a late rush by the Bombers to preserve the victory.

Senior Megan McGuinness (Carle Place) finished with five saves, while Brandwein registered two saves. Cortland won despite being outshot by the Bombers, 12-6. Each team earned five penalty corners.

Cortland will host William Smith Saturday at 1 p.m.
