Cortland Begins SUNYAC Play with 5-0 Win vs. Potsdam

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's soccer team opened up a 3-0 lead at the half and went on to defeat Potsdam, 5-0, in the SUNYAC opener for both teams. The Red Dragons evened their overall record at 3-3-1. The Bears dropped to 4-3.

Senior Jaden Galluzzo (Commack) led Cortland with two goals and one assist. Junior Lizzy Sabatelle (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham) and sophomores Simone Neivel (Syracuse/C.W. Baker) and Rachel Lacoff (South Setauket/Ward Melville) each netted a goal. Freshman Katie Cosenza (East Setauket/Ward Melville) recorded two assists, while junior Grace Paliwodzinski (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa), sophomore Kayla Valerioti (Oakdale/Connetquot) and freshman Isabella Auth (Mount Sinai) collected one assist apiece.

Junior goalie Lexi Ramonetti (Northport) made two saves in her first career start for the Red Dragons. Freshman goalie Savannah Bowie (Mechanicville) registered nine saves for the Bears.

Sabatelle scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the fourth minute, one-timing a shot inside the right post after a long throw in from Valerioti skipped through the box. Neivel made it a 2-0 game in the 25th minute with a one-time shot inside the left post off a cross from the left. Galluzzo gave Cortland its 3-0 lead at the break. Auth served a free kick to the top of the box. Cozenza one-touched a pass to Galluzzo, who one-timed a shot past Bowie in the 31st minute.

Galluzzo struck for her second goal in the 68th minute. She took a long pass from Cosenza and broke in alone on Bowie, who denied her original shot. The rebound caromed right back to Galluzzo, and she deposited a shot into the open goal. Lacoff finished off the scoring in the 88th minute, netting her first career goal from the right side of the box for the 5-0 final.
