Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Red Dragons Fall to Plattsbugh, 1-0

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior Allison Seidman (Commack) scored midway through the second half and the goal stood up as the visiting Plattsburgh women's soccer team defeated Cortland, 1-0, in SUNYAC action Saturday afternoon at Holloway Field.

Junior goalie Lexi Ramonetti (Northport) registered seven saves for the Red Dragons (3-4-1, 1-1 SUNYAC). Junior goalie Julia Ennis (Carmel/Kennedy Catholic) stopped six shots for the Cardinals (5-1-2, 2-0) in recording the shutout.

Senior Emily Frodyma (Watervliet/Catholic Central) and sophomore Nora Fitzgerald (New Rochelle) each recorded an assist on Seidman's goal.

Although the first 45 minutes were scoreless, each team created chances. In the fifth minute, Ramonetti charged off her line to stuff a shot by Plattsburgh sophomore Avery Durgan (West Chazy/Beekmantown) at the left post. Ramonetti then made a diving save on senior Kirsten Villemaire's (Plattsburgh/Beekmantown) shot from the right side of the box in the eighth minute. The best opportunity for Cortland came in the 23rd minute, but Ennis made a save on a bid by Cortland freshman Katie Cozenza (East Setauket/Ward Melville) on the right side from deep in the box. The Cardinals had one more excellent chance in the first half in the 28th minute. Villemaire sent a long shot headed for the upper left corner that Ramonetti punched over the top of the goal to keep the game scoreless.

Sediman struck for the game winner in the 74th minute. Fitzgerald served a pass into the left side of the box where Frodyma one-touched a pass to Seidman, who one-timed a shot from in close. Cortland pressed for the equalizer late. Ennis made a routine save on a long effort by freshman Isabella Auth (Mount Sinai) in the 89th minute and touched a last-second shot from sophomore Simone Neivel (Syracuse/C.W. Baker) that was headed for the upper corner over the crossbar right at the final horn to preserve the 1-0 win.
