PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- Graduate student Blake Aronson (Huntington Station/Walt Whitman) converted a penalty kick in the 77th minute as the nationally 18th-ranked Cortland men's soccer team defeated Plattsburgh, 2-1, Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC play. The Red Dragons won their eighth consecutive game and fifth in a row by one goal, improving to 8-1-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The Cardinals fell to 3-4-1 and 0-1-1.

Senior Mikey Lanzetta (Somers) also scored for Cortland, and sophomore Jason Lee (Middle Village/Xavier) collected an assist, his third of the weekend. Junior goalie Braden Melveney (Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) made five saves.

Brian Coughlan scored Plattsburgh's goal with Dylan Shalvey assisting. Goalie Teddy Healy registered one save.

Lanzetta gave Cortland a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute with his second goal of the season. Coughlan tied the game in the 54th minute, but Aronson tallied the game winner, his fifth of the season, in the 77th minute after a Plattsburgh foul in the box to give the Red Dragons the 2-1 road victory.
