ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Cortland women's soccer team scored three straight second-half goals and defeated host Nazareth College, 3-1, Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. The Red Dragons leveled their record at 1-1. The Golden Flyers dropped to 0-1-1 with the loss.
Sophomore
Simone Neivel (Syracuse/C.W. Baker) scored a pair of goals and senior
Jaden Galluzzo (Commack) tallied a goal for Cortland. Kristen Prohaska netted the goal for Nazareth.
Junior goalie
Kiersten Becker (Guilderland) recorded her first collegiate victory, turning aside nine shots for the Red Dragons. Goalie Gabrielle Pighetti made three saves for the Golden Flyers.
After a scoreless first half, Neivel gave Cortland the lead in the 66th minute with her first career goal. Galluzzo made it a 2-0 game 53 seconds later with an unassisted effort, and Neivel added her second of the game in the 74th minute. Prohaska spoiled the shutout bid, converting a penalty kick in the 82nd minute for the 3-1 final.
