CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's and men's swimming and diving teams posted dual-meet victories at home over visiting Oswego at Holsten Pool. The Red Dragon women defeated the Lakers, 159-107, while the men were victorious, 165-120.
Cortland will return to action Thursday at 4 p.m. at New Paltz in a make-up of a meet previously scheduled for Jan. 14.
Madi Monaghan (Chili/Gates-Chili),
Emily Lantry (Massena/St. Lawrence),
Kailyn Anselment (Queensbury/Glens Falls) and
Taylor Williams (Slate Hill/Minisink Valley) each posted two first-place finishes to lead the Cortland women.
Monaghan won the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.19) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:44.61). Lantry was victorious in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.50) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:32.79), while Anselment won the 200-yard backstroke (2:23.80) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:59.95), the latter as an exhibition entry due to the team score at the time. Anselment also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.82). Williams won the 3-meter diving event with a score of 291.95 points - her personal best six-dive score in the event - and she won 1-meter diving with a score of 263.85 points.
Marissa Kordal (Eden) captured the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:32.78) and was second as an exhibition entry in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.07).
Nicole Murphy (Saratoga Springs) won the 50-yard freestyle (26.39) and was second in the 100-yard freestyle (59.17), and
Mackenzie Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.81).
Ashley Zachgo (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) was the runner-up in both diving events (252.65 points on 3-meter, 240.85 points on 1-meter), and
Caitlin Elsasser (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) was second in the 400-yard IM as an exhibition entry (5:11.30).
On the men's side,
Sean Zupko (Montgomery/Valley Central) and
Lance Meeson (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) were each double winners individually. Zupko won the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.95) and the 400-yard IM (4:35.45), the latter in an exhibition role due to the team score. He was also second in the 100-yard backstroke (57.61). Meeson captured both 3-meter (253.85 points) and 1-meter (249.55 points) diving.
Ethan Domanico (New Windsor/Newburgh Free Academy) won the 500-yard freestyle (5:08.77) and was second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.76).
Josh Chamak (New City/Clarkstown North) finished first in the 100-yard backstroke (56.96) and second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:23.75), while
Mason Arnberg (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills East) won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.13) and was runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.84).
Patrick Kivlehan (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) posted a win in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:51.20),
Cooper Lang (White Plains) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:15.88), and
Nick Dambra (Brockport) won the 100-yard butterfly (55.92). Cortland opened the meet with a win by Chamak, Arnberg, Domanico and
Aiden Poli (Cortland/Home schooled) in the 200-yard medley relay (1:38.84).
In addition for the Red Dragon men,
Sam Zani (Rochester/Irondequoit) was second in both the 50-yard freestyle (22.97) and 100-yard freestyle (51.48) and
Alex Hilldale (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) was runner-up in both diving events with scores of 242.90 points on the 3-meter board and 221.10 points on the 1-meter board.
Michael Falcone (Massapequa) placed second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:17.13),
Danny Swift (Millerton/Webutuck) was second in the 100-yard butterfly (56.67), and
Mason Rowlands (Campbell Hall/Washingtonville) finished second as an exhibition entry in the 400-yard IM (4:36.01).
