Red Dragons Drop SUNYAC Game vs. Plattsburgh

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh men's hockey team scored four consecutive goals spanning the first and second periods and earned a 5-2 victory at Cortland Friday night in SUNYAC action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons dropped to 10-7-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the conference (17 points), while the Cardinals improved to 10-5-3 and 6-2-1 (17 points).

Senior Michael Sciore (Syracuse/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) recorded a goal and an assist for Cortland. Junior Matt Jahn (Glen Allen, VA/Charlotte Rush) netted a goal, and freshman Johnny Facchini (Succasunna, NJ/PAL Junior Islanders) added an assist. Junior goalie Luca Durante (Brampton, ON/Aurora Tigers) stopped 32 shots, allowing four goals in 56:53.

Sophomore Trey Thomas (Williams Lake, BC/Brooks Bandits) scored two goals for Plattsburgh. Sophomores Bennett Stockdale (Ottawa, ON/Alabama Huntsville) and Cory Doney (Northfield Falls, VT/Vermont Lumberjacks) and freshman Jack Ring (Hingham, MA/Northeast Generals) each netted a goal, freshman Luk Jirousek (Whitehorse, YK/Albern Valley Bulldogs) collected two assists and six others each chipped in with one assist. Sophomore goalie Anthony Del Tufo (Livingston, NJ/Philadelphia Revolution) registered 32 saves.

Jahn gave the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead just 1:12 into the game, knocking in a rebound right in front for his third goal of the season. Ring tied the game at 14:30 with a shot from the right point on the power play. Thomas scored his first goal of the game just over three minutes later from the deep slot after a Cortland turnover at the side of the net to make it a 2-1 game after the first 20 minutes.

Stockdale tallied his team-high 11th goal of the season on a one-time shot in front 6:58 into the second period on the power play. Doney pushed the Cardinal lead to 4-1 at 12:30 with a wrist shot from the point through traffic. Sciore scored his sixth goal of the season on a deflection in front 18 seconds later to cut the Cortland deficit to 4-2.

In the third period, the Red Dragons pulled Durante late, but Thomas sealed the win with an empty-net goal at 18:36 for the 5-2 final.
