CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Potsdam men's hockey team skated to a 3-1 win at Cortland Saturday night in SUNYAC action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons fell to 10-8-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the conference (17 points). The Bears improved to 2-14 and 1-9.
Senior
Michael Sciore (Syracuse/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) scored his seventh goal of the season for Cortland. Sophomores
Nate Berke (Williamsville/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) and
Sutter Donegan (Cicero/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) each picked up an assist. Senior goalie
Owen Zdunski (Findley Lake/Chippewa Steel) turned aside 31 shots and allowed two goals in 59:03.
Seniors Thomas Terranova (Middletown, NJ/Syracuse Stars), Robert Clerc (Wappingers Falls/Oswego St.) and Ethan Clark (Seven Valleys, PA/New Hampshire Avalanche) netted the goals for Potsdam. Junior Nick Alfieri (Buffalo/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) and freshman Garrett McArthur (London, ON/Markham Royals) collected assists. Junior goalie Connor Green (Newport Richey, FL/Tampa Bay Juniors) made 39 saves.
Terranova gave the Bears the lead at 15:53 of the first period with a one-time shot from the right point on the power play. Clerc made it a 2-0 game at the 6:47 mark of the second period when he carried the puck behind the Cortland goal and slipped a shot past Zdunski on the left side of the net. Just over five minutes later, Sciore scored on the power play right in front off a feed from Berke.
The Red Dragons pressured the Bears in the third period, holding a 15-9 advantage in shots. Cortland pulled Zdunski for an extra skater with 1:36 remaining, but Clark sealed the 3-1 win with an empty-net goal at 19:21.
