GENESEO, N.Y. – The Geneseo field hockey team scored goals in the second and third quarters in earning a 2-0 home victory versus nationally 18th-ranked Cortland Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action. The Red Dragons dropped to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference. The Knights improved to 8-2 and 2-0.
Katrina Clare tallied both goals for Geneseo with Maggie Phipps and Cassidy Sturdevant each collecting an assist. Goalie Sarah Quinlan made four saves for the Knights, while freshman goalie
Emma Morgan (Whitney Point) registered four saves for Cortland.
Clare scored what proved to be the game winner 9:27 into the second quarter and added an insurance goal just 1:53 into the third quarter. Sophomore
Sydney Reinisch (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) had a chance to put Cortland on the scoreboard late in the third quarter, but Quinlan denied her scoring bid. In the fourth quarter, Quinlan kept the Red Dragons scoreless, stopping two shots by sophomore
Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland) to secure the 2-0 win.
