Cortland Shuts Out Oneonta, 4-0, in SUNYAC Play

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Four different players scored goals as the nationally 20th-ranked Cortland field hockey team earned a 4-0 victory at Oneonta Wednesday evening in a SUNYAC contest. The visiting Red Dragons improved to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference. The host Red Dragons dropped to 5-6 and 2-1.

Sophomores Carolena Purpura (Centerport/Harborfields), Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland), Sydney Reinisch (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) and Hanna Corrigan (Barneveld/Holland Patent) each netted a goal for Cortland. Senior Lily Fox (Northport) contributed an assist.

Freshman goalie Emma Morgan (Whitney Point) made two saves in posting the shutout for the visiting Red Dragons. Goalie Jennifer Tumino registered 13 saves and Erin Clark recorded a defensive save for Oneonta.

Purpura scored the game winner just 3:13 into the game on an unassisted effort. Each team went scoreless in the second quarter, and Cortland took a 1-0 lead into intermission. Ettere made it a 2-0 game 1:10 into the third quarter off an assist from Fox before Reinisch put Cortland ahead, 3-0, with her goal 1:35 before the end of the quarter. Corrigan completed the scoring with an unassisted goal with just 36 seconds remaining in regulation for the 4-0 final.
