GENESEO, N.Y. – The Cortland women's soccer team scored two second-half goals to earn a 2-1 comeback victory at Geneseo Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC play. The Red Dragons improved to 10-1-3 overall and 6-0-1 in the conference and moved into sole possession of first place in the league with 19 points. The Knights dropped to 8-4-2 and 5-1-1.
Juniors
Kayla Valerioti (Oakdale/Connetquot) and
Simone Neivel (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) each scored a goal for Cortland. Sophomore
Katie Cosenza (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) assisted on both goals. Sophomore goalie
Kristen Spendal (Dumont, NJ) made three saves, and the Red Dragons also recorded two team saves.
Lindsay Wright tallied Geneseo's goal with Nicole Bell assisting. Goalie Angel Bennett registered three saves.
After a scoreless first half, Wright gave the Knights a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute with her seventh goal of the season. Valerioti tied the game in the 67th minute, and Neivel scored the game winner in the 80th minute. In the closing minutes, Geneseo had a shot blocked and a Cortland player cleared a Knight bid to tie the score off the goal line to secure the 2-1 win.
